Dorothy Cullman Obituary

CULLMAN--Dorothy. It is with profound sadness and deep affection that the Trustees and the entire community of the American Museum of Natural History mourn the death of our beloved Dorothy Cullman, an extraordinary human being, a deeply admired longtime Trustee, and, together with her husband and partner Lewis, a legendary philanthropist at the Museum, throughout New York City, and beyond. During a historic time in the life of the Museum, Dorothy was among the Museum's most engaged Trustees and, with Lewis, most generous benefactors, supporting the full range of the Museum's work, from pioneering support of our collaborative scientific research through the establishment of the Cullman Program for Molecular Systematics Studies, to the magnificent Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Hall of the Universe. She also sought to deepen the fruitful dialogue between the arts and science. We have been tremendously privileged to benefit from Dorothy's keen intellect, boundless curiosity, distinctive wit, and, most of all, passionate heart for the Museum, its mission, and its people. She was a dear friend and treasured partner and a light has gone out in our lives. But like the stars showcased in the Cullman Hall that she and Lewis made possible, her spirit and legacy will burn brightly forever as a beacon to us all. The entire Museum community mourns the loss of the truly exceptional Dorothy, and sends deep and heartfelt condolences to her husband Lewis, sons William and Frederick, grandchildren, and the entire Cullman family. Lewis W. Bernard, Chairman Ellen V. Futter, President
