E. DEANE TURNER obituary

E. TURNER Obituary

TURNER--E. Deane. E. Deane Turner, aged 97, of New York City, died on March 22, 2026. Son of Alfred Edward and Bertha Deane Turner of Auburn, NY. Graduate of Princeton University (A.B. 1950) and Harvard Law School (LL.B. 1953). Senior partner and later of counsel to the New York law firm of Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP and its predecessors which he joined in 1953, and of counsel to Morris & McVeigh LLP until 2019. His practice centered for a brief period on antitrust matters and later corporate finance. He was a Fellow Emeritus of the American College of Investment Counsel. An elder (1973), deacon (1982), and trustee (1976) of The Brick Presbyterian Church in the City of New York, he was President of its Board of Trustees from 1988 to 1990. He was the author of "A History of the Brick Presbyterian Church in the City of New York: A Fellowship of Kindred Minds (2017)," and an anthology of The Brick Church's favorite hymns, entitled "A Legacy of Sacred Songs (2019)." His other charitable interests included the Presbytery of New York City of whose Board of Trustees he was President (1995-1998) and the James N. Jarvie Endowment. He had been a member of the Down Town Association, the Princeton Club, the Union Club in the City of New York and the John's Island Club of Vero Beach, Florida where he had maintained a winter residence. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Society of Colonial Wars, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Saint Nicholas Society of the City of New York, the Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York, and The Pilgrims of the United States. He is survived by several cousins and members of a broader extended family. A memorial service will be held at The Brick Presbyterian Church, 1140 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10128 on April 14, 2026 at 11:00am with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to The Brick Presbyterian Church, 62 East 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128 are welcome.
