EDWARD MCGONAGLE Obituary

McGONAGLE--Edward F. Fordham Law School is deeply saddened by the loss of Professor Emeritus Edward F. McGonagle. Professor McGonagle joined the Fordham Law faculty in 1964 with an impressive background and wide-ranging intellectual interests. For 42 years, he taught Decedents' Estates, Trusts, Land Use, Future Interests, and Administrative Law. He retired in 2006, and the following year he was elevated to Emeritus status. Professor McGonagle was a superb teacher who combined deep knowledge of his subjects with a gentle wit, and he made the most complex courses accessible and enjoyable. He was extraordinarily thoughtful and decent to all those he came into contact with--an example for all. He would quote to his classes the Quaker saying, "Be present where you are." The saying calls on us to treasure each moment of life as a gift and also to treasure the presence of those around us. Professor McGonagle's life was a testament to the power of this philosophy. William Michael Treanor, Dean, Fordham Law School

Rosemary, Sorry to read about your dad's passing. I went to St. John's in Cambridge with you before you moved away in 2nd grade. I always wondered where you went. Hope your happy memories of your father sustain you in this difficult time.
