ELLEN ORDWAY Obituary

ORDWAY--Ellen,

passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at West Wind Village in Morris, Minnesota at 90 years of age. Ellen was born to Samuel H. Ordway, Jr. and Anna Wheatland Ordway in New York City on November 8, 1927. She attended Wheaton College, obtained a Master's Degree from Cornell University and a PhD from the University of Kansas in 1965. While in college she was a field assistant to Dr. William Beebe of the New York Zoological Society at his experimental station in Brazil. In 1965 Ellen joined the faculty of the Biology Department at the University of Minnesota/Morris, became professor emeritus in 1997 and retired in 2005. She specialized in the study of bees and traveled extensively abroad until a stroke in 2006 limited her to watching wildlife around her home in Morris. Ellen is survived by her brother, Samuel H. Ordway III and his wife, Chris Ordway of Weed, California; her nephews, Richard of Boulder, Colorado and David of Falmouth, Maine; as well as their families. A celebration of Ellen's life will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 commencing at 2:00pm at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Burial will be at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to West Wind Village, 1001 Scotts Avenue, Morris, MN 56267 (320-589-1133) or Knute Nelson Hospice, 2715 Highway 29 South, Suite 103, Alexandria, MN 56308 (320-759-1270).
