Dear Lorna,
With great sadness we heard about Eric's death. Although I didn't have much contact with him - or you - for a long time, I remember him very fondly. His all-encompassing knowledge gave every meeting and conversation a spark and produced at least one memorable pun.
I learned a lot from him. It was fun for me to talk with him about music, even as I knew so much less.
I also remember, fondly, our '91 birding trip together to Ecuador (see photo) where I learned to pay attention to detail, when it comes to bird identification. I also enjoyed reading his informative Long Island blog.
With deep sympathy for your loss to you, Stephanie and Eva,
Cordially,
Fritz
