ERNEST SCIUTTO Obituary

SCIUTTO--Ernest Sella,

on November 9, survived and greatly missed by his children Mary, Nellie, Patsy and Jim and his grandchildren, Austin, Henry, Charles, Nicholas, Ella, Tristan, Caden, and Sinclair. Ernest, known as Ernie to his friends, Dad to his children, and Poppy to his grandchildren, was born in Paterson, New Jersey to his loving parents Louis and Olga. He graduated from Columbia University in 1952 on an NROTC scholarship and served four years in the U.S. Navy, honorably discharged as a LTJG. He subsequently earned an MBA from New York University. He worked for more than thirty years at Shell Chemical Company, where colleagues and clients viewed him as one of the most trusted and popular executives in the industry - winning a record number of sales awards. He was happily married for 49 years to his late wife Elizabeth Higgins of Louisville, Kentucky. He saw his family and children, whom he called his "jewels," as his greatest joy. Dad taught us honesty, integrity, generosity, and, most importantly, humility. We hope to honor his memory by living up to the high standards he set for us. Visiting hours: 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm, Sunday, November 12 at Frank E Campbell Funeral Chapel on 81st and Madison. Funeral: 10am, Monday, November 13 at Church of St. Ignatius Loyola on 84th and Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to St Ignatius Loyola School, 48 East 84 St., New York, NY 10028.

Very sad to hear of Ernie's passing. He was the consummate professional in his business dealings but more important he was the definition of a gentleman. Ernie's quick-wit and kind demeanor will always be remembered. My condolences to his family.

Over the 69 years we've known Ernie from freshman in the NROTC at Columbia to retiree in Manhattan, he has always been a source of wisdom and good cheer. The family which grew over the years has been a credit to him and his beloved Liz. We shall always remember his smile, reminiscences and his iconic terseness on the internet. We shall not forget him, which is the truest memorial.

I am blessed to have known Ernie and his loving family for over 40 years and look forward to continuing the love that he and his wife planted and grew so eloquently. The Sciutto family shines with this love as these wonderful photos also reveal. I become more confident in the enduring power of love each day and share that consolation with love always.

I will miss Ernie Sciutto. He was a wonderful human being. From a professional standpoint, as a purchasing agent I measured every salesman that called on me against the gold standard: Ernie Sciutto of North Haledon, NJ and Manhattan. He was a true friend as well.

We enjoyed getting to know Ernie through Mary as we raised our children together. Our children went to SIL with Poppy's grandchildren. Ernie was always charming, fun, warm and friendly to all. The Callahan Family, Robert, Nancy, Bobby, Emma and Katharine send our love.

The Pierson Fellowship will have a void from the loss of Ernie. He was, in fact, a paradigm for our groups values.

Although we only had the pleasure of Mr. Sciutto's company the past couple of years through his daughter, Patsy, and granddaughter, Ella, we quickly became impressed by his upbeat spirit, dignified decorum and dapper attire. He was a gentlemen from a different era who we will always miss seeing at his granddaughter's basketball and softball games, but whom we won't forget as his spirit will live on in his children and grandchildren. He was a warm and engaging human being. Rest in Peace, Mr. Sciutto, with your beloved wife. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire Sciutto family.

I'm deeply sadden for the family and all who knew Earnie. He was an inspirational, joyous man with a charming and loving spirit. His daughter, Nellie, is my cherished friend. She definitely has a beautiful resemblance to her father. All the children were a great blessing to their father. Sending my sincere prayers.

Nellie, Your father lived a long and gallant life. My heart goes out to you. Life maybe challenging without him, but I pray that friends and neighbors give the family an abundance of moral support. Above all, turn to God, for he will give you, not only comfort, but strength, guidance and hope for the future. Jeremiah 29:11/Psalm 32:8

We were fortunate to have spent some time with. Mr. Sciutto in the last few years through Nellie. I always enjoyed the conversation and his great sense of humor. I know his spirit lives on in his kids and grandkids, and I'm glad we get to continue to enjoy him through Nellie and Charles.
Rest In Peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

I've only had the privilege of meeting Mr. Sciutto a couple of times through his daughter Nellie. In those brief meetings it became clear to me why Nellie is such a special person. His humor, generosity and strength of character live on in Nellie and her son Charles. The stories Nellie tells of her childhood and family make it clear that he and his late wife created an amazing home for theit children. Everyone I have ever met from the Sciutto family proves that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
