EUGENE CLARK Obituary

CLARK--Msgr. Eugene V., The Trustees of the Homeland Foundation, Inc. express great sympathy and affection for Msgr. Eugene V. Clark who died on April 11, 2012 in East Hampton, NY. Msgr. Clark was a guiding force and inspiration for the Homeland Foundation and was, along with Fr. Raphael Camano, its spiritual leader. He was a brilliant speaker, a knowledgeable connoisseur of religious art, had a keen whit, and was very devout. He was the creator of, and motivating influence, behind the Patrons of the Arts at the Vatican Museums, establishing its first United States Chapter in New York City, and counseled the members in their restoration of numerous works of art in Vatican Museums. This included the Raphael Tapestry "Healing the Lame Man," a 1 B.C. Roman Mosaic, the Fra Angelico frescoes in the Chapel of Nicholas V in Pontifical Palace in the Vatican, and the restoration of the Casina of Pope Pius IV in the Vatican Gardens near St. Peter's Basilica. He also was responsible for hundreds of persons being able to view Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel, assisting many to ascend the scaffolding during the cleaning of the Chapel ceiling and "Last Judgment." His caring ways and leadership will be missed by Homeland, his family, and all of the persons and organizations with which he was involved during his lifetime. E. Lisk Wyckoff, Jr., President William J. Ayres, Vice Pres. David Dangremond, Vice Pres. Rev. John Kamas, Vice Pres. Carl Schmitt Elizabeth Wyckoff, Secretary Mrs. Lucy Flemming-McGrath, Trustee Emeritus

Monsignor Clark was my History Professor during my freshman year at Notre Dame College of Staten Island in 1963. He also officiated my wedding ceremony, as well as my daughters in 1991 & 1995. Additionally, he said the masses for my parents funeral. He was more than kind, highly intelletual, a true patron of the arts & a most reverent relgious. I will truly miss him as well as the guidance he provided over the past 48 years. Rest in peace. In loving memory...

Monsignor Clark was moderator of the Cardinal Spellman HS yearbook;--"The Vanguard". (1963-1964). He took the students working on the year book to a Broadway play:"Beyond the Fringe". That was my introduction to Broadway theater. Father Clark was very kind, and very funny.May he have eternal joy.--Rita McConnon
