EUGENE LITTMAN Obituary

LITTMAN--Eugene Isaac, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother died peacefully with his wife and his children at his bedside on July 7th at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elfriede, devoted father of Robert Littman, Sandra Finkelstein and her husband Robert, Bonnie Gatof and her husband Peter, David Littman and his wife Constance; his grandchildren Alexander, Jessica, Harrison, Tyler and Jacqueline Lee; and his sister, Geraldine Ossakow. A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School (Class of 1945) and Cornell University (Class of 1948), he completed his degree in three years earning Phi Beta Kappa distinction. After college, he served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he joined his family business, ultimately transforming Lightron of Cornwall into one of the nation's leading commercial lighting manufacturers. A brilliant entrepreneur, innovator and visionary in his field, he advanced energy efficient lighting technologies that helped shape the industry for years to come. The Littman family-held companies continue to employ hundreds of local residents. His commitment to the community extended to multiple board activities, leadership positions and philanthropic endeavors. He served on the Board of Directors of: St. Luke's Hospital, Cornwall Hospital, Key Bank and Temple Beth Jacob, where he also served as President. He and his family's philanthropy led to the creation of The Littman Cancer Center and The Littman Emergency Center, providing state-of-the-art medical services to the Mid-Hudson Valley. The family is requesting that those who wish to make any contributions in his memory direct donations to either: The Littman Cancer Center at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, 70 Dubois Street, Newburgh, NY 12550 or Temple Beth Jacob, 290 North Street, Newburgh, NY 12550.
