FRANCES CERULLO Obituary

CERULLO-Frances M. Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Health System are deeply saddened by the loss of one of their most loyal and devoted employees on October 27. Though 86 at the time, Fran had reluctantly retired in late 2019. She joined our Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC) in 1976, as a volunteer and went on the payroll in 1977, where she was a psychoeducation specialist whose work with children who had reading and behavioral problems spanned nearly 45 years. She helped thousands of children in the Bronx, co-directing CERC's School-Age Unit's Psychoeducational Treatment Program. Many staff and faculty members, including deans, sought Fran's expertise for their children or grandchildren. She also headed the Psychoeducational Treatment Program and, with colleague Ruth Gottesman, developed the Einstein Evaluation of School-Related Skills in 1988, and updated in 2017. This invaluable assessment tool is used in hospital clinics and private pediatric practices nationally to determine whether a child's academic skills are at grade level and which areas are likely challenges in need of more evaluation. Never without a smile and a kind word, Fran will be dearly missed. Our condolences to her entire family--husband Nick, children Lisa, Jonathan, and Lori Ann and grand-daughter Gabrielle. Dearest Jonathan, I am so sorry to hear of your moms passing. My heart goes out you, your sisters and your dad, and your family and friends.
I read the beautiful eulogy you posted and your mother would be so proud to have such a wonderful son as you are to have remembered and celebrated her life with such words, such love.
I gave my mums eulogy, so I know how hard it must have been for you to do so.
If you need anything, I am here.
Bless your family

Dear Cousins,
My heart aches over the sudden passing of Fran. My memories of her as one of my ‘big’ cousins are all very pleasant. Her smile, laughter & ability to converse meaningfully with everyone is the image of her that I will hold dear. May you find comfort in the love & beautiful times you shared . Her life certainly made the world a better place.
With sympathy & compassion ,

The world needs more people like Fran. Her smile and infectious laugh will be missed. I only knew her for a little over a year. I wish I had known her much longer, and heard many more great stories. She made everyone feel welcome, happy and heard. Living in Maine, I got to see the beach cottages. Both the homes and gardens were equally beautiful. Her caring ways were always appreciated, as well as her delicious scones. My heart goes out to Nick, Lisa, Gabbie and her entire family.

Fran was more than a friend. She was my mentor, my psychologist, my go to person for everything. Her love of life, flowers, people and especially her family will always be a special memory. I will miss her dearly. Nick, Lisa, Lori, Jonathan, Gabrielle and Dee, I am here for you.

Fran was indeed a very special individual to her family, neighbors and friends, as well as accomplished professional in a field that came of age during her lifetime. Fran and I shared a class or two at Manhattanville College in the mid-70’s where we both were completing coursework in special education. We knew each other from Armonk as well, and Lou taught her children at Byram Hills. Our hearts go out to all who loved her and appreciated her keen wit, energy and enthusiasm. Heartfelt condolences, Carole and Lou Del Savio
