Frances Shaw Obituary

SHAW--Frances Fort, of a heart attack, November 19. An editor and writer, she provided services to architects, city planners, governmental agencies and foundations. Frances was happiest when giving, helping and caring for others; not only to friends, but to many whom she could never know. She contributed significant time and money to the Prospect Park Alliance, and to social welfare and dance organizations. Her husband Kendall adored her. Her writing experience began with a book she wrote as a New Orleans high school thesis project. After graduate study at Wellesley College, Frances taught Physics there. She is survived by Kendall, Eileen Madrid, a niece, and Milton H. Lintz, Jr., a nephew. Contributions may be made to the Frances Fort Shaw Memorial Fund of the Prospect Park Alliance, 95 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Frances' life will be celebrated in the spring beneath two groves of budding trees that she donated to beautiful Prospect Park. Her gentle, joyful spirit and sweet laughter are missed.

Frances was one of the best gifts my uncle, Ed Romieniec, ever gave me. Decades ago, when I first moved to New York, he introduced me to Frances and Ken. She immediately took me under her wing, escorting me around the city and teaching me to navigate the subway system from Manhattan to Brooklyn. We stayed in touch when I left the city, and to this day, my fondest memory of Frances is her giggle. She loved life. And she shared that love freely. I wish there were more Franceses in this world.

My memories of Frances Fort Shaw:
Gentle, thoughtful, giving but never asking for anything in return, great story teller, devoted, sweet smile with laughter & more. These are just a few memories of my great friend, neighbour and chosen family member FRANCES.
