FRANCIS BRADLEY Obituary
BRADLEY--Francis Joseph. Our father, Francis Joseph Bradley, passed away on May 29, 2021. Francis (Frank) was born January 15, 1926 in Corona, NY and served with distinction as a US Army Air Corps B-29 tail gunner, based in Guam, during WWII. He later attended Manhattan College in New York and studied Radiological Physics at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory before obtaining a Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Doctorate in Physics and Chemistry from The Ohio State University. In 1951 Frank married Bonnie Klei and went on to raise a family of five children. Bonnie Bradley passed away in 1998. Frank was a founding member of the Health Physics Society, established in June 1955 at his Ohio home. Hired in 1961 by the International Atomic Energy Agency he was posted to Turkey where he developed a code of regulations for the Turkish Atomic Energy Agency followed by a posting to Taiwan where he completed a similar assignment. Following a deployment to the Aleutian Islands, to collect environmental measurements from an underground nuclear detonation, Frank took a position at the New York State Department of Labor as principal radiophysicist where he administered the program of regulatory enforcement for industrial use of radioactive materials and x-ray devices. He also codified the use of lasers in industry and art. Frank explored the world and, closer to home, was an avid mountaineer and runner and volunteered monthly as overnight guardian at the Men's Shelter on 35th Street. He was a longtime member of the choir at St. Monica's Church. Frank is survived by his second wife Rose Marie Pratt and four children, Christopher, James, Margaret Hart, Kenneth, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
