FIELDING--Francoise. Francoise Fielding, age 74, died peacefully on September 29, 2022 in Basel, Switzerland with her two daughters, Kimberly Fielding and Stephanie Fielding (Julian Merschen), by her side. She is also survived by five grandchildren. Francoise was predeceased in 2020 by the love of her life and beloved partner of over 25 years, Dee Ann Standley. Francoise and Dee were inveterate travelers who were deterred by nothing, whether it was the Snowman trek in Bhutan, three weeks in North Korea, Yemen, right after a tourist attack or Civil War in Syria. Francoise was born in New York City on February 25, 1948. She graduated from the Lycee Francais in New York, Columbia University and Columbia University Law School. After practicing law she became involved in various aspects of commercial real estate. She also volunteered extensively, including as a CASA and an End of Life doula. There will be no memorial service.

Francoise Fielding was a longtime libertarian and activist and colleague of mine in the Libertarian Party of San Francisco. In our local group she was always a steady, reliable and consistently principled voice in advocating for freedom and limited government, and participated in ways including writing, media outreach, and hosting socials at her apartment.

Her decision to consciously take her own life was in keeping with her libertarian beliefs in individual autonomy in mind and body, and I admire her for taking that final decision as I knew her to live, calmly, deliberately, and peacefully. We miss her.
