I knew Frank nearly my whole life--first as a family friend and then as a comrade in work for peace and social justice. One of my father's closest and most long-term friends, I had the opportunity to see and appreciate many aspects of him. He was an incredible man who will be sorely missed. He leaves the rest of us to carry on the work which was so central to his life.

Frank never stopped wanting to improve his technology skills. As his computer guru, I've helped Frank construct 3 books. He was eager to learn and patient. To me, he was always kind and enlightening; I learned more about Proust, C. L. R. James, and Gramsci from Frank than I ever could on my own. I feel privileged to have spent time with both he and his late wife Lucy over the last 13 years. Rest in peace, old friend.

I had the honour of meeting Frank when I invited him to a C.L.R. James conference in Ottawa in 2009. He was a scholar and a gentleman, a kind soul in a world of sectarian discord. He will be missed.

Frank was an amazing scholar and human being – a rare breed indeed – with his pathbreaking contributions. He will be sorely missed personally but his scholarship and, hopefully, his warmth will live on within the Gramsci community.

Frank was all the wonderful things that the obit says about him ... a dear friend and a caring human being... along with his obviously brilliant scholarly life. I will always remember the lively discussions on Gramsci that he and my deceased husband, John Cammett, had.
