Very, very sorry to hear of your loss. Professor Gornick was my instructor at UMBC ~ 1985, and had a lasting impact on my life. A couple recollections:

Professor Gornick started one class by reading the ~ 1920 high school curriculum from a local, elite institution (Gilman?). Of course, their high school studies were much more advanced than our college level studies. Dr. Gornick observed, Compare that with your own experienceor mine, for that matter. His self-effacing comments were much appreciated by those of us struggling with the relationship between joint probability theory and polymer structure.

His broad interests were again evidenced by a chance encounter at a long gone Baltimore jazz club (urban exploreryes). His urbane sensibility and breadth of interests showed me being a scientist could be pretty cool. And I know he had lasting impact on a number of other students. He is missed.

I am so sorry for the loss of your father. May it bring you a measure of peace knowing all that he accomplished. May God also bring your family peace, strength and loving comfort. (Rom. 15:33)
