GEORGE FOX Obituary

FOX--George Miller. George Miller "Huckleberry" Fox, age 50, of Washington, DC, passed away on November 3, 2024 from prostate cancer. Dr. Fox was born on October 6, 1974 in Philadelphia. George graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School and New York University before continuing his education at Cornell University earning a Masters Degree in Animal Science followed by a doctorate from The University of Florida in Plant Medicine. You stood out in Terms Of Endearment in a way that set you apart from child actors of your time.

Only a young "Harley Cross" was a close second.

May my Lord Jesus keep your family safe & secure.

Anytime I need to release an up build of emotions I watch "Terms" just for your crucial "Crying Scene."

God Bless,

Kevin Minton

I just heard of this news. How shocking and sad. George was such a nice person. I worked with him at the USDA. The last time I saw him was in the Dominican Republic. It was several years ago. He told me stories of his wife and kids and how much he loved and cherished them. George was an honest and thoughtful person and he will be missed.

Huckle was a dear friend and classmate in 3rd and 4th grade at Worthington Hooker School in New Haven. He was a celebrity among teachers, less so among the kids, but always humble and sweet. I consider him my first-ever "boyfriend." He'd ride his bike alongside me on my walks home. I still have a homemade, heart-shaped valentine he gave me. Luckily I connected with him through social media as an adult and learned what a wonderful and important career he had. I'm so sorry for your loss. An outstanding person gone too soon. RIP Huckle.

I met George when he was in his early teens, when he was "Huckle." He was such a great light, such a pure, playful and passionate soul; truly living up to his name at the time. Reading the memories and comments of others here, I see the arc of his life kept him beaming quite brightly, all across the Earth. He has clearly been a gift to so many and my heart breaks open for those who hold him dearly. God bless you Huckle, God bless you George...

My dear friend, my insect-collecting buddy, and confidant-I miss our talks so much. George was one of my best friends. We met after class at UF in the Doctor of Plant Medicine program, and our conversations continued long after, up to just a few days before he passed. He had the biggest heart and helped me through my mom´s illness and death every step of the way. Smart, intense, yet incredibly empathetic, he was deeply passionate about ecological restoration and peaceful pathways for humanity. Our after-class debriefs turned into life debriefs, and I will always treasure them. Rest well, my amazing friend. Bless his family that he loved so very much.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. George Fox. He was a light to all of his colleagues and friends in agriculture. It was an honor knowing Dr. Fox as one of our University of Florida, DPM Program alumni. My deepest condolences to his beloved family for this untimely loss.

Hi. My name is Jeandré. I met George through my Dad, Rodger (South Africa). George used my dad´s shuttle service and they quickly became friends.

I´ll never forget how you used to invite my family and me over for dinner, with your mom making that delicious vegetarian pasta, knowing my sisters and I didn´t eat red meat. I still miss that pasta to this day. You were always so thoughtful and considerate, with a warmth that made everyone feel welcome. Your enthusiasm and positive energy were contagious - the room would literally light up when you walked in. Your humor and passion for the environment made a lasting impression on me, and I´ll carry that with me forever.

When you left South Africa, my family and I were so sad (who would talk to my dad about plants now?), but we were happy that you were embarking on a new chapter. We met when I was 15, and now I´m 24, and I still feel incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with someone as kind and genuine as you. Not many people get the privilege of knowing someone like you. I look up to you to this day.

There will always be a hole in our hearts that can never be filled, but I know you'd want us to nourish it with the good times we shared and let your memory continue to blossom in our lives. You will be deeply missed, George.

Will always remember our weeks together in South Africa and especially our visit to Kruger National Park. George was just starting his first international posting to Pretoria in 2017. Got to share alot of personal reflections with him during that time. He was a complex but supremely kind individual. Friends and colleagues will certainly miss him.

Hello, my name is Tay and I am one of George's co-workers at USDA. I want everyone to know that George was a wonderful person to work with. He never complained about having a bad day and always spoke positively about his colleagues. I will truly miss our conversations and his cheerful chuckle. George, you will be missed by all.

I got to know George when he was a Foreign Service Trainee in APHIS around 2015-2016. He was always upbeat and curious, and I enjoyed his collaborative spirit. He and I also shared a connection with New Haven, CT, since he went to school there and my father was born and grew up in the city. George and I gave a talk on APHIS' mission to some USDA colleagues a year ago, and he was such a supportive colleague and friend. I was shocked to learn of his untimely passing and will miss seeing him.

I'm so sad to hear this news. I remember Huckle so well, from New Haven and then around NYU where I often bumped into him at the library. We'd always end up talking for a long time. Sending my love to Huck's wife and kids and all the Foxes today.
