GEORGE LAZARUS

LAZARUS--George M. The NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Board of Trustees is deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. George M. Lazarus, our dear friend and the cherished husband of our beloved Board Vice-Chair, Shelly Lazarus. Dr. Lazarus was an extraordinary pediatrician who made a lasting impact on pediatric medicine and on countless children and families who benefited from his dedication and compassion. A devoted primary care pediatrician, he was a champion for his patients, always ensuring they received the very best care. He was one of the first clinicians to hold faculty appointments at both of NewYork-Presbyterian's affiliated medical schools, Columbia and Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Lazarus was also an exemplary teacher who delighted in training the next generation of pediatricians. The Dr. George M. Lazarus Newborn Nurseries at NewYork- Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital are named in his honor. Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Lazarus was a compassionate philanthropist who advocated for victims of domestic violence as a board member of Sanctuary for Families. He was also named an Honorary Police Surgeon for the New York City Police Department. Dr. Lazarus's wonderful sense of humor and sharp wit brought joy to those around him.
