George Prans Obituary
George Paul Prans was born in Elizabeth, NJ on February 10, 1943 and died on April 27, 2016 at home in New York City after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Sharyn M. Finnegan, his daughter Kate Finnegan-Prans, and his brother Richard I. Prans. His graduate work at Stevens Institute of Technology in NJ was funded by NASA, where he achieved three Masters degrees in Physics, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. George was a professor of EE at Manhattan College in NY for forty-one years, where he also did research in solar power and electrical cars. He spent vacations from teaching building a house in Vermont, and enjoyed fishing and backpacking. He found his greatest happiness in family and nature. A private memorial service will be held in the garden of St. John's-in-the-Village, NYC, on May 14, 2016.

Here is the second drawing I made of Dr. Prans in 1980 when I was 21. I still use his phrase (in his voice) "Any Questions" when I ask my own students questions in my classes.

I am saddened to hear of my former Professor's passing. I read about it in the Fall 2016 Manhattan College Alumni Magazine that I just received. I had Dr. Prans for 3 courses and I really enjoyed having him as my Prof. I also really enjoyed hanging out with him in his office, not only for office hours ("meet my in my rectangular parallelepiped") but just to socialize. When I started my college teaching at Va Tech, I copied many of his classroom mannerisms while learning to develop my own style. Imitate, integrate, innovate. I kept my Notebooks from his class and found some drawings that I made of him back in 1979 and 1980. He left a very deep impression on my life and am honored and privileged to have known him for my Junior and Senior years at Manhattan College. I hope these drawings will provide a glimpse into his classroom from one student's point of view.

I remember George form 1961 to 2015 from early days at Stevens Institute of Technology. I enjoyed our time together as undergraduates and when he was a post graduate.
We met up several times over the years but stayed in contact through his many years as secretary of the alumni log for the Class of '65. He was at Manhattan College in New York city and I was mainly at the University of Hong Kong so we did not meet up as often as I would have liked.
I will always remember him as a fine person,

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow "Jasper Maker" and the family at this time. Faculty -- current and past -- are recognized, remembered, and prayed for. We are mindful of the service of these good men and women that comprise the Jasper "forge" that making us what we are. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
