GEORGE SHEINBERG Obituary

SHEINBERG--George

Charles, financial executive, artist and photographer, passed away on February 16th at the age of 83 while on vacation in Switzerland. He was born in New York City in 1935 to Frank and Edith Kupchick Sheinberg, and spent his youth playing basketball in Brooklyn, NY and at Abraham Lincoln High School. He attended Harvard University in the class of 1956, and later received his MBA and JD degrees from NYU. George spent the years 1956-1958 in the US Naval Reserve. Upon returning home, George made his mark as a bright, young hard working financial executive, becoming Chief Financial Officer of Bulova Watch Company and Shearson Loeb Rhoades, then Treasurer and executive vice president of American Express Corporation from 1981-1984. George returned to Shearson Lehman from 1984-1989 as Vice Chairman and Director of the firm's Investment Committee, and served on the board of directors at Doctor Pepper/7 Up and R.P. Scherer Company. Throughout his rise in the financial world, George became an unofficial resident photographer at each of his stops, becoming corporate chronicler by day and New York nightlife record keeper after dark. During the late 1980's, George left Wall Street to follow his creative passions and spent his remaining years as an artist and photographer, splitting time between New York, Paris, and St. Tropez. He became a board member of the International Center of Photography. Over the years, often under the aliases of Georges Belmont or simply "Giorgio", he presented his multimedia works of photos, oil paintings, and drawings in gallery exhibitions in the US and Europe. He is survived and will be missed by his two sons, Evan and Kenneth, daughter-in-law Abby McKenna, grandchildren Aidan, Owen, and Matthew, his brother and sister-in-law Eric and Susan Sheinberg, former wife Jacqueline Sheinberg, and by an eclectic group of friends around the world. A memorial of his life will be held at a later date in the spring.

One of the greatest men I have ever met. He was a great love of mine, a dear dear soul. I knew him for over 30 years and never one day went by that I didn't think of him. We last texted just weeks ago, and my sorrow is so so deep I cannot bear the pain. I will sorely miss his never-ending wisdom, kindness, and the warmth of his beautiful voice. Goodbye my love. I will miss you.

From our days in NYC's nightlife in the 80s/90s to Paris and St Tropez George was a great guy whom I looked forward to seeing every year. And although we were never close friends, like many I will miss his youthful enthusiasm and artistic curiosity.
