George Weissman Obituary

WEISSMAN--George. The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) mourns the passing of George Weissman who was unparalleled in his leadership, passion, and commitment to Israel's women and families. George and his wife of 65 years, Mildred, were integral in establishing and sustaining Women to Women (W2W), an organization which merged with NCJW in 2005, that provided financing and support to Israeli women of all faiths and backgrounds in their struggle for social justice, wellness, and economic empowerment, focusing on innovative grassroots programs and advocacy efforts that sought to empower women as agents for social change. Mildred and George continued to serve Israel's women and families following this merger through their involvement with NCJW. NCJW was privileged to have the opportunity to honor both George and Mildred at its annual Israel Benefit Luncheon last June at the Jewish Museum in New York City for their lifetime contributions as activists and supporters of Jewish culture, education, and humanity. We send deepest condolences to Mildred and to Paul, Ellen, and Dan, and their families. Nancy Ratzan, President, Stacy Kass, Executive Director.

Dear Mildred, I just heard from Us Friends that your dear husband passed away. I extend my condolences to you. Anemone and i often speak and spoke of George. For me during my löwenbräu Times he was an outstanding man in every respect and I feeled very honored that he extended friendship above our busines relationship to me which extended the time after I left the Brewing businies. Our last suppe togehther with you, dear meldred ist long gone but we still remember it - of course the manys meetings and friendly get togethers we had in the sixties and seventies of the last century. I will never forget a gentleman and a humanist, who was a good and true friend. All the best to you and I share your grieves. Daniel Gerstein

Mildred
My deepest condolences for your loss. I only met George once - at the 2008 Israel Benefit Luncheon where you were both honored so deservedly. The legacy he has left behind will leave in perpetuity.
With great admiration & sadness
