GINGER GROSSMAN Obituary

GROSSMAN--Ginger. Ginger Grossman, a leading political activist in Aventura and N. Dade County, FL, died October 18 at age 91. She is survived by her adoring husband of 70 years, Arthur; daughters, Boni Smith of FL and Lynn Grossman of NY; son-in-law, Bob Balaban; granddaughters Mariah and Hazel Balaban. At the time of her death she was actively involved in three political campaigns. As Founder and President of the North East Dade Involved Democrats, she developed a large and vocal bloc of senior voters and her support was actively sought by Democratic candidates on the local and national level. She was an active board member or founder of more than thirty political and social welfare organizations. She liked to quote Muhammad Ali: "Service to others is the rent we pay for our place here on earth." Ginger lived most of her long, good life paying that rent. I met Ginger in May 2010,but having such a rich and wonderful relationship with her has meant so much to me making me feel like I have known her all my life. Her loving and caring spirit, always upbeat attitude and relentless courage has inspired me.What an amazing woman, what generosity, what love, what strength and above all what grace.Although our time spent was so short the many times we laughed made a differnece and I could not have asked for a better girlfriend.

Ginger is missed already. Her passion for politics was only surpassed by her love for Her family, whom she spoke about always with pride and joy. She always said I was her favorite Republican. I think I was her only Republican friend. She tried so hard to switch me. A few years ago she was successful in bringing me half way to "No Party' status. I am sure given more time she would have succeeded. It was hard to say no to her. The days leading to Election Day seem a bit empty without Ginger. We will all miss her greatly.

To the Grossman family:
I am grieving deeply over the loss of Gingerk, one of the most remarkable women I have eveer met. And I've met a few, like Helen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt and Golda Meier. But GINGER GROSSMAN is in a class of her own, although she would never admit it. Ginger had the forsight, feistiness and fortitude to inspire hundreds of seniors, instilling in them a self-esteem they never possessed before she came on the scene She inspired so many during her arduous battle against poverty, discrimination and lassitude that insured her name would be remembered and honored for centuries to come.
I met her, almost a half century ago, when she and her beloved husband Arthur stepped into my home/studio in Kendall with her mother for my son Mark to make one of the first holographic portraits ever done in the state, of her mother "benching" candles, an unforgettable portrait of a strong womanwho launched an even stronger daughter into the world I knew then I was privileged to be in the presence of royalty, a lady who years later has left her indelible imprint on an entire generation of people she so greatly inspired. The mold was broken. Noone can ever replace her. She will remain in our hearts with great and endearing love
forever. I always felt Ginger was just "too busy" to die. And she won't
she will remain in our hearts.

Ginger was a person that I will never forget. She was kind enough to give me her friendship and I will always keep her in my heart. She had a great sense of humor, she was very generous, and she told me always to say what I felt. She did and that is why people respected her. I love you Ginger, my thoughts are with your family at this time.

We weren't elected judges in Miami without Ginger's help. And she gave it generously and kindly if she thought one was qualified. So many of us will miss and remember Ginger, a tribute to an amazing life.
