GUNILLA KNUTSON Obituary

KNUTSON--Gunilla. Gunilla Knutson, the Swedish model and actress who gained international fame as the face of Noxzema shaving cream in the 1960s, passed away on February 3, 2025, in Ystad, Sweden. She was 84. Born on November 14, 1940, in Ystad, Ms. Knutson first rose to prominence when she was crowned Miss Sweden, a title that launched her into a successful modeling career. She moved to New York City, where her striking Scandinavian features and natural elegance made her a sought-after figure in the fashion industry. In 1966, she became a household name with Noxzema's now-iconic "Take it off, take it all off" advertising campaign. The sultry yet playful commercial captivated American audiences and cemented her status as a pop culture icon. Her image graced the cover of *Life* magazine, further solidifying her place in the world of fashion and beauty. Beyond modeling, Ms. Knutson made television appearances, including guest spots on *The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson*, where her charm and wit endeared her to audiences. She later pursued her passion for health and wellness by authoring *Beauty and Health the Scandinavian Way* and *Gunilla's Book of Massage*, advocating for holistic well-being long before it became widely embraced. Ms. Knutson was married to Per von Scheele, with whom she had a son, Andreas von Scheele. Her journey--from a small town in Sweden to international stardom--was marked by grace and authenticity. She will be remembered not only for her iconic presence in media but also for the warmth and intelligence she shared with those who knew her.
