HANA GOLDSTEIN Obituary

GOLDSTEIN--Hana, age 82, of New York, NY, on May 4, 2024. The cause of death was metastatic cancer. From a childhood spent tucked away in a bathtub to avoid the Nazis, Hana escaped and flourished. She accrued a vast knowledge of the arts, which she applied toward impeccable interior design with enviable elegance, all while also being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Born in Czechoslovakia, Hana's early life was irrevocably marked by the German Occupation and subsequent Communist invasion. By the age of 10, Hana had endured multiple harrowing journeys -- by foot and by sea -- that ultimately landed her and her family in Australia via Austria and England. Although unfortunate circumstances brought Hana to Australia, in time, the continent introduced her to her two great love affairs: the Sydney Opera House and her husband, Gideon Goldstein. After attending University of Sydney and finishing school in Neuchatel, Switzerland, Hana was introduced by a friend to Gideon, an ambitious medical researcher. As newlyweds, Hana and Gideon emigrated to the U.S., where they raised a family in Short Hills, NJ. They would have been married 60 years in October. Along with building her own interior design firm, Hana served as a docent at The Newark Museum of Art. Hana is survived by her husband, Gideon Goldstein; daughter, Melissa Noah, and son-in-law, David Noah; son, Dov Goldstein, and daughter- in-law, Jennifer Goldstein; grandchildren Madeleine and Andrew Noah, Emma and Hadley Goldstein; and brother, Peter Hesky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ann Hesky and Fred Hesky. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Newark Museum of Art in memory of Hana Goldstein. Services today, Friday, May 10, at 11am at "Riverside".
