I was a friend of Frances, my Faygele, and met Harold briefly at her Harvard Club birthday party. What I remember in particular is his humor in stating that he had always been her younger brother but by a strange phenomenon over the years had become her older brother. Faygele spoke often of Harold's large and loving family and I know you'll always have good memories of him.

Thank you to all of you who came to the memorial service, or who have left notes here. My mother and sisters and I are indeed reading these notes.
And here is a photograph of my parents from about 6 years ago.

Harold was a good friend of our family's and a good egg in general. I enjoyed our conversations when they visited my mom & dad's house in Chapel Hill. Condolences to Elaine and the family.

I'm not Jewish, but as I understand the word "mensch" it describes Hal Haidt perfectly. He was more than a friend. He was like a trusted uncle. He was a truth-teller. And he was generous of soul and spirit. The world is a lesser place without him. Sylvia and I send our condolences to the family.

This world has lost a good and noble person. What a powerful example of making a difference in the world. Mr. Haidt clearly believed in young people and gave with incredible generosity to open doors of opportunity and windows of hope for so many kids. He will live forever because he is part of so many kids' lives, and that will touch them in their studies, their work, and the families they have have someday. It is a privilege to lift him up, and I send my condolences to his family for this loss.

All of us at Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate are very saddened by the passing of Mr. Haidt.
The Haidt Family Foundation has provided scholarships to more than two dozen BRMA graduates. The Foundation has already endowed scholarship funds for more than 100 additional students who are currently enrolled in BRMA. Mr. Haidt was the driving force behind the addition of a scholarship fund to Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate's program model. It was his desire that our students start the program with a vision that they would go to college.
Mr. Haidt grew up in New York City during the Great Depression. He began working as a newsboy at a very young age, and he always emphasized the importance of hard work to our students. When meeting with our high school students, he always wanted to know if they had part-time jobs because he believed it was important to develop a strong work-ethic. He would also tell them how he worked through college and law-school. He believed that a hard work-ethic and an education were the key to success throughout life.
He will be missed, but his vision and contributions will continue to impact our students for years to come.
