HARVEY SIGELBAUM Obituary

SIGELBAUM--Harvey Charles. Harvey Charles Sigelbaum, a lifelong New Yorker, has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family at the age of 87. Harvey grew up between Newark, NJ and Toronto, Canada, but spent nearly 70 years in Manhattan, where he had an impact on more people than could fit into Madison Square Garden. He was the King of Dads, Zaydes, Friends and Mentors. Always interested in others, whether that meant spending time with family, helping anyone and everyone, a true connecter and unifier. This also meant constantly sharing. Proudly sharing his family history, sharing stories of his wife, four children, ten grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren, or sharing a pastrami sandwich (only from the 2nd Avenue Deli). He was the best storyteller. A dear friend referred to his "inner circle" as FOH (Friends of Harvey). This elite and enormous group are lucky to have been in his orbit and arms. When it comes to his professional life, to which there was little distinction between the two (colleagues are considered friends and family), Harvey held an illustrious career. Most recently he was a Senior Advisor for The Riverside Company, and prior to that he served as President and Co-CEO, as well as Vice Chairman and Executive Chairman, of MultiPlan, Inc., CEO of Amalgamated Life Insurance Company and CEO of Urban Community Insurance Company. He has been active as a board member for numerous organizations, both for-profit and not-for-profit, including those focused on healthcare, insurance, media, affordable housing, international development and community welfare, and was appointed by President Clinton, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, to serve on the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). While his accolades are vast, one of his proudest personal moments was starring in an episode of Food Wars as a 2nd Avenue Deli "Mega Fan," sharing his passion for pastrami with the world. But his true passion was his beloved family. He leaves behind his cherished wife Barbara, his children Jane (David), Jeff (Rosemary), Jill (Jamie), and Jessica (Jon), his grandchildren Gus, Calvin, Dan, Malcolm, Doug, Greg, Jack, Julia, Bea and Arlo, and great-grandchildren Jude, Sunny and Sava. As Harvey once said, "The most meaningful thing is family. Everything else is boloney." (he may have used a more colorful word). May everyone be so lucky.

I first met Harvey at Urban Community and then Amalgamated and Multi Plan. He was always a good friend and working for him as a consultant was a pleasure. He had a spirit that transferred to all that he met. I last spent and afternoon with him 2 years ago and had planned to see him again soon. He will be missed by all. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Harvey was a loving and giving man. I always enjoyed talking to him and exchanging texts and emails including photos. The most important advice he gave me was, "Always love your kids and tell them you love them." I´ll miss Harvey´s wisdom and his gentle touch a lot. Alan Safron
