HENRY BOOKE Obituary

BOOKE--Henry. With sorrow and respect we offer this obituary at the recent end of Henry Booke's life. He was born in Brooklyn New York in 1932, to Sol and Sylvia Booke. He passed away at his home with his wife and family around him. He married his college sweetheart, Norma Jean Wilcox in 1959 and they stayed married for 66 years. Henry was 93 years of age. Henry was dedicated to higher learning and academic excellence. He graduated from Andes Central School and began his service to our nation with U.S. Army Intelligence. Following an honorable discharge he pursued his undergraduate education at Cornell University in 1960 and then pursued his advanced degrees at Michigan State where he did earn his Doctorate. Henry taught at the college level in New England at Boston University, Yale, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was active in the field of fisheries as a co- op unit leader and professor at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. He retired as the Scientific Director of the Northeast Anadromous Fish Laboratory, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He enjoyed travel and conversation during his retirement and stayed active with the American Fisheries Society. Henry's contributions to science and society will always be remembered. He had a sharp wit and a big heart, and was always willing to help those in need. As his son; he instilled a love of the outdoors in myself and changed my life permanently for the better. He will be missed.

Henry was one support those around himself, sometimes in surprising ways. His gruff exterior was betrayed by a soft interior. I for one will not forget the continued interest and support for those of us in the coop units and among "fish squeezers".

We got to see the softer side in your retired years.

We will miss you,

Joe and Gayle
