HOWARD M. HOLTZMANN

HOLTZMANN--Hon. Howard Marshall, died at home in Manhattan, December 9, 2013, hours before his 92nd birthday. Judge Holtzmann was an original Member of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, which was established as part of the settlement of the Iranian hostage crisis. Among his many other contributions to the field of international arbitration, he long served as a member of the United States Delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. He graduated from Yale College in 1942 and Yale Law School in 1947, and he received the Yale Medal in 2006. He was the son of the late Lillian Plotz Holtzmann and Jacob L. Holtzmann. He is survived by his wife Carol E. Holtzmann and daughters Susan Richardson of Palo Alto, CA and Betsey Holtzmann of Southwest Harbor, ME. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Louise Muller (Henry), his stepson, William van Berg and grandchildren MacLaren Richardson (Jodi), Andrew Richardson (Erin), Abe Noyes, Jill van Berg (David Manela), Elizabeth van Berg and Allison van Berg and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Fisher Holtzmann and stepson, Peter van Berg. Services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Central Synagogue, 652 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 at 11am. The family will welcome friends at their residence from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. No flowers please.
