Hugh Michael Field was born on June 9th, 1981 in Basingstoke, England. He was the first child of Michael and Sue Field. His family moved to the US in 1982 and lived in New Jersey.

He loved music and studied piano, trombone, and cello and played in several bands. An avid skier he grew up hiking and camping with his family. From a young age he loved the stage, taking part in theatrical productions and musicals including a professional Madrigal Dinner Performance with his mother, Sue at Opera Colorado.

After his family relocated to San Diego, California in 1995 Hugh attended Torrey Pines High School and graduated in 1999. He was a member of the debate team, on the staff of the school newspaper, and was extremely active performing and working behind the scenes in the theatre. He was also a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony. After graduation, he attended The Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.

In New York, he discovered his passion for carpentry and design. He continued to play music and DJ'd.regularly. In 2003, he returned to California. His parents had bought an older house in Redwood City and Hugh directed its complete renovation. The house contains elements of Hugh's trademark style.

From 2004-2016 he worked for McCutcheon Construction and Matarozzi Pelsinger Builders in construction and construction management until he established his own business in 2016: Owners' Advocacy and Estimating Services. His attention to detail and dedication to excellence made him a well-respected and valued partner to his clients and the industry.

In San Francisco he developed an expertise in sailing and crewed on several race teams. In 2010 he purchased a 40-foot Challenger sailboat built in 1973 named Elizabeth.

He met his wife Amy Carmela Cruz in 2012 and they lived together on Elizabeth in Sausalito, frequently sailing with friends and family. They welcomed their daughter Carmela Sue in 2014 and her sister Lillian Diana in 2016. Hugh and Amy also rented a small home in Guerneville.

Those years were filled with visits from friends and loved ones enjoying the beautiful Russian River. Hugh and Amy amicably separated in 2018 and along with his partner Amy O'Brien all became loving and committed co-parents of Carmela and Lillian. Hugh shared his love of literature, sewing, cooking, music and gardening with them.
