IVAN OBOLENSKY Obituary

OBOLENSKY--Ivan. The Board of Directors of the Children's Cancer & Blood Foundation, (CCBF), mourn the passing of Ivan Obolensky (January 29, 2019), dear friend, founding member, and long-serving past president of CCBF. Mr. Obolensky was always a champion of funding research that would lead to innovative care to improve the lives of children with blood disorders and cancer at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center's Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. The Board and all members of CCBF would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.

I just wanted to add a comment. I only recently learned of Ivan's passing. A large thank you to him and his family for providing the Soldiers and Sailors Club to our military for so many decades. I and my unit thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and facility that was provided. God Bless you all and our military.

So very sorry for his passing. I met Ivan at the Army- Navy Game in Philadelphia. I was in the Navy and was in command of a group of Seabees in the New York area. We volunteered our services for projects at the Club on Lexington avenue. A thoroughly enjoyable experience over many years. Prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

Please accept my sincere condolences.

I know Mr. Ivan Obolensky father Serge Obolensky from the great book "One Men in His Time".
By sheer chance I run into pre-Revolutionary documentary from Russia:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnCa3uqqxhc

At the 4 min 2 seconds time from the beginning of this video I've seen an image of Mr. Serge Obolensky dancing:

" He (Sorine, who wanted to paint Mr. Obolensky portrait) told me later that it was because he thought I was a specific type of Imperial Guard Russian officer, and that type would soon be extinct"

I would be happy if you find this video fragment interesting to put in the family archive.

Respectfully, Vladimir Kravets

Ivan exemplified a true New Yorker. He was direct, honest, quick-witted, eloquent, no-nonsense, and lived a fascinating life. He was also incredibly strong and resilient. We really thought you would outlive us all. Thank you for loving and sharing a portion of your life with my mother and our family. You will always have a special place in our hearts and are terribly missed already. I am grateful for the times we spent together. My prayers go out to Ivan and his family.
