JACK REID Obituary

REID--Jack Davis. Jack Davis Reid, born on August 5, 2004, beloved son of Elizabeth and William Reid and brother of Lucy Margaret Reid of New York City, died suddenly on April 30. Jack was a junior at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ, and graduated from The Buckley School in New York City. Jack was recognized as a leader by his peers and served as President of Dickinson House at Lawrenceville and Chairman of the Student Council at Buckley. He was interested in a life of public service and won multiple awards for character and citizenship. He ran on the cross country and track teams and served as captain of cross country at Buckley. He also loved singing in choir groups at both schools. Jack was baptized and confirmed at Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City. He is remembered by all for being compassionate and kind. He will be especially missed by his half-siblings Alexa Reid Smith and William Weber Reid, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Forsythe Garno, Jr. of Gladwyne, PA. and Mrs. Ogden Rogers Reid of Waccabuc, NY along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. His funeral was held at Church of the Heavenly Rest led by the Reverend Matthew Heyd with a Remembrance by Gregory J. O'Melia, Headmaster of the Buckley School. The family of Jack Davis Reid, who will love him for eternity, asks that you honor his legacy through acts of kindness.

I recently watched your interview on ABC News and was deeply saddened by the loss of your beloved son. As a mother who has experienced the pain of having a son bullied in a private school, I am profoundly moved by your efforts to extend the anti-bullying act to private institutions. It was shocking to discover that such protection didn't apply to private schools when my own son faced bullying a few years ago. Your compassion and proactive measures are truly appreciated. I am sure that your initiatives will bring solace to many families, ensuring that all children, regardless of school type, are safeguarded by anti-bullying legislation. Thank you for your kindness and dedication. May Jack rest in peace and his legacy of kindness be remembered.

As a parent to a parent: I am so sorry that any of this happened. I also wanted to send you love, hugs, and prayers. I have no magic words or sayings to help your hurt. I just wanted to share with you that Jack has had an impact on me in San Antonio, Texas. May his light always shine as bright today and tomorrow so that he will help others on the dimmest of their day.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Reid
I was so moved by your sons obituary I felt compelled to send you both a note honoring your kind and compassionate son. Much to short a time here on earth but touched so many with his kind spirit. I will pray for your family during this difficult time.

And I will continue my decades-long 'habit' of doing (at least) one 'good deed' (or 'act of grace') every day...adding (in my mind) that 'this one' is 'for Jack' too...Amen...

Dear Elizabeth Reid and family,
My heart aches to learn of your immeasurable loss. I offer my deepest empathy, having lost a sibling also too young, may it bring some comfort to know we are thinking of you. Sending love and a promise to follow your advice to honor Jack through acts of kindness, a beautiful tribute, indeed.
