JACQUELINE DESMARAIS Obituary

DESMARAIS--Jacqueline.

The Metropolitan Opera mourns the death of Jacqueline Desmarais, the extraordinary French Canadian philanthropist who was a distinguished Managing Director of the Board. Mrs. Desmarais generously supported the Met's Live in HD transmissions to Canada and funded many Met productions, including the recent new staging of Tosca. In her native Quebec, Mrs. Desmarais championed the careers of young artists and provided financial support to some of Canada's most important cultural institutions. She was admired by her fellow Met board members for her knowledge of opera, her warmth and wit, and her devoted service. On behalf of our entire company, we extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends. Ann Ziff, Chairman Judith-Ann Corrente, President and CEO Peter Gelb, General Manager Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Music Director Designate
