JAMES LAROSSA Obituary

LaROSSA--James M., one of the most accomplished trial lawyers of his generation, died peacefully at his home in Manhattan Beach, CA, on October 15, 2014, after years of outsmarting a variety of illnesses. Affectionately known as "Jimmy" his entire life, he was born on December 4, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY. Jimmy served as a Marine Corps officer during the Korean War and was a former Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York; following his public service, he went into private practice and represented many colorful figures in New York City and beyond. His professional accomplishments as a defense lawyer have been recorded numerous times in this newspaper and countless others. His lasting legacy comes from his rich and fulfilling relationships with his family and his countless devoted friends throughout the country. He touched many lives in his 82 years on this earth, and his family takes comfort in the love others are expressing in his memory. His children, grandchildren, and friends readily admit that it is difficult to imagine a world without this gregarious lover of life. Beloved father to James, Thomas, Nancy and Susan, cherished grandfather to Sofia, Gianni, Juliana and Xixi, adored brother to Dolores (Nelson), and loyal friend to many, many people. His final wish was for us to squeeze every last drop out of our lives. And we will. We love you Dad, we love you Pop-Pop, we love you buddy. Till we see you again.

I think of Jimmy often. He will always be a presence in my life. His charisma, boldness, humor and boundless friendship are perpetual. I still laugh at his stories. I try to summon his power when he walked into a room. Many knew him better than I knew him but his impact still overwhelms me.
