My sincere condolences to Jim Murphy's wife Margaret and their entire family.

I first met Jim at St. Patrick's in Long Island City. He was the head of the altar boys and I was just a kid. We all knew he was special and looked up to him.

I caught up with him in his days at Fleet Bank when his illustrious career was already underway. He had become a statesman and his career was framed by his charitable work

Ironically, he and I came out of Long Island City, and we're going Home through the Gate of Heaven.

My father grew up with Jim as a child in Astoria. When they both got married, our families lived on the same block there & became very close. My Brother & I played with Margie & Jim's children & grew up with their family. Both our families moved out of Astoria around the same time & then moved to Flushing where we all continued to be close with each other for many years. Bill & I have nothing but fond memories of Margie, Jim & their children & will always remember Jim's famous Irish wit. He kept us laughing at many a dinner. Margie & Jim were good parents to their children & their generosity was evident not only to their family & friends but also to the many children of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children, which Jim was a relentless advocate & most remembered for. Our hearts go out to Margie, their children & grandchildren & we both will never forget the laughter & fun we all shared growing up together.

I knew Jim through his work with NYSARC, Inc. He was a great man with much wisdom and compassion. My condolences to all of his family and thank you for sharing him with so many others who needed his leadership.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
