Jane Gould was a shining star for me when I was a student at Barnard. She organized a group of juniors to talk about what we were going to do after Barnard because we hardly knew which way we were going.
It always felt so good talking to her because she knew what she was doing. She was a role model for so many of us trying to find our way. She was a feminist with a vision that will burn forever in the women she mentored and influenced.

I worked with Jane at the Women's Center in the 1970s, and she has been one of my most important models for how to be a working woman, a mother, a professional, a colleague, and a fair-minded person who is committed to a cause and a vision. In all kinds of ways that I will never forget, Jane was fearless. She was also a great person to work for and with and a wonderful friend. I will miss her.

Our entire family will miss being with Jane, who was so much a part of our lives for many years, and had such a great influence on us. We remember her as a "quiet agitator", a feminist, a humanist, a role model, an idealist and a wonderful friend.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jane's passing. She was my boss, mentor, role model, when I worked for her at Barnard in the early '70's. She introduced me to feminism and helped me feel comfortable as a working mother, encouraging me to develop my own career. She was smart and compassionate. My sincere condolences to the family.
