WALSH--Jeremy Abbott. Jeremy Abbott Walsh died peacefully on October 19, 2025 in Brooklyn, NY. Born on April 15, 1936 in Buffalo, NY to Richard J. Walsh, Jr. and Margaret T. Whedon. Grew up in Bellerose, LI and Eastchester, NY before spending most of his adult years in New York City and the Hudson Valley. Attended Hamilton College, where he sang in the choir and was a member of an a capella group, the Buffers, both under John Baldwin. Later joined Baldwin with the University Glee Club of New York City. At Hamilton, played for the golf team and joined Emerson Literary Society where he developed a meaningful friendship with fellow philosophy major and future Civil Rights activist Bobby Moses. Graduated from Yale Architecture School having studied under Paul Rudolph. Was an early cohort member of the New York City Department of City Planning "Urban Design Group" under Mayor John Lindsay. Spent 27 years as an urban planner for City Planning where his work was integral to the revitalization of Downtown Brooklyn/Metrotech as well as NYC piers and walking/biking paths. Registered architect who published plans and designed homes, including his own, which he built in the Hudson Valley. A Boy Scout in his youth and later a member of the US Army Reserves. In high school, ran the quarter mile, played golf; played trumpet and French horn in the band. A lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, Knicks and (football) Giants. A lifelong lover of the beaches of Long Island, Cape Cod and the Maine Coast. An avid reader, he rarely missed an edition of The New York Times for about sixty years, clipping and saving thousands of articles along the way. Logical, methodical, and deeply modest but also very humorous and a natural storyteller. Grandson of Richard John Walsh Sr., founder of the John Day Company, which published Pearl Buck's The Good Earth (and more of her work) as well as books and essays by figures such as Albert Einstein, Langston Hughes, Jawaharlal Nehru and Franklin D. Roosevelt. John Day was later managed by Richard J. Walsh, Jr. until its sale in 1974. Great-grandson of Lt. Col. John Whedon Steele who won the Congressional Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism during the U.S. Civil War. Above all, a loving husband and devoted father, he is survived by Judith, his wife of 54 years; daughters Tenney and Avery (of a previous marriage); sons Jonathan and Nathaniel; grandson Eli; granddaughters Peri, Jelina and Jamila; and nieces Sarah and Jennie Sue. He was preceded in death by younger brother David H. Walsh.
