JOAN WACHTLER

WACHTLER--Joan, died peacefully at home on August 21, 2022. Mrs. Wachtler, a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College held, in addition, both MA and CSW degrees, was a clinical social worker, teacher and member of the Board of the Jewish Women's Foundation, the Queensborough Counsel and the New Jewish Home. An innovator of mental health programs at the Centerpoint Queens "Y" where she served as its assistant director, she was honored by UJA-Federation for her many achievements and served her community as a member of the Nassau- Suffolk Planning Commission and the North Hempstead Housing Authority. Mrs. Wachtler was the founder of CAPE, a geriatric mental health clinic and the first mental health clinic accredited at a community center in the State of New York. She was the beloved wife of Sol Wachtler for 70 years, and the adored mother of Lauren, Marjorie, Alison and Philip, sons-in-law Paul Montclare and Barry Braunstein, daughter-in-law Robin Wilpon Wachtler, eight grandchildren, and a newborn great-grandson. We all "love you better."
