JOANN PINKOWITZ Obituary

PINKOWITZ--JoAnn. JoAnn Lee Edinburg Pinkowitz, age 73, of Newton, MA and Manhattan, NY died on July 24, 2022. She was married to Richard A. Pinkowitz for 51 years, who adored her from the moment they met. She is survived by her two loving sons, Andrew H. Pinkowitz and his wife Lisa Rondo Pinkowitz and their daughter Augusta Anya of Harrison, NY, and David E. Pinkowitz and his wife Randi Melton Pinkowitz and their child Chloe Emma, also of Harrison, NY, and Connor Joseph Pinkowitz and Allegra Grace Pinkowitz, both of Brooklyn, NY from a prior marriage. She was the daughter of Joseph Mayer Edinburg and Dorothy Braude Edinburg of Chestnut Hill, MA. She had two siblings, John David Edinburg of Brookline, MA and Hope Lynn Edinburg who predeceased her. JoAnn attended Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA and received a bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH. JoAnn was an energetic presence who was passionate about her friends, family and collecting art. She was a print collector and scholar with collections of Mexican and Chinese woodblock prints. She contributed prints from her collection to major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, The Harvard Art Museum, and others. She was diagnosed with Type I diabetes in her late teens and throughout her lifetime she did not suffer any complications from living with this disease. She maintained an active life of skiing, scuba diving, and sailing in the family boat along the eastern seaboard, including the islands off Cape Cod. She traveled extensively with her husband on many self-guided trips throughout Asia. She preferred the more sedate trips to Europe but enjoyed the adventures of less traveled roads. Burial took place at Temple Israel Cemetery, Wakefield, MA on July 27, 2022. Donations can be made to MGH Diabetes Research Center, c/o David M. Nathan, MD, 50 Staniford St., Suite 340, Boston, MA 92114.

I am so saddened by this news. I only knew Joann briefly, and virtually, but we shared a love of prints and in particular the prints of Elizabeth Catlett. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, warmth, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.

To Joann's family, I'm very sorry for the loss of your Wife/Mother/Sister. As a fellow WestEnder, I knew Joann for decades. Her presence was a solid one; upbeat, filled with energy, creative and 'good' are how I remember Joann. She will be missed .

JoAnn was a constant and cheerful presence at our West End pool and later at the Y. She was upbeat no matter the circumstances and had so many fabulous interests to pursue. So Sorry.
