JOHN CAVANAGH Obituary

CAVANAGH--John A. With great sadness, we mark the passing of a dear friend, construction industry icon, and founding member of CAGNY, John A. Cavanagh. John was a highly-regarded, active leader in the New York City construction industry, and through his years of hard work and unfailing dedication, earned the unequivocal trust and respect of his peers in all sectors of the building community, real estate industry, as well as organized labor. John was elected Chairman Emeritus of CAGNY in 2004, having served as CAGNY's Chairman since the association's founding in 1984. In 2001, CAGNY honored Mr. Cavanagh by naming its scholarship program after him. The John A. Cavanagh Scholarship Program continues to enhance educational opportunities for tomorrow's construction industry leaders and has awarded over 50 scholarships since the Program's inception. Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife, Barbara, his daughter, Connie, and her husband Paul Deering, his daughter, Nancy, and her husband Jerry Maliwesky, his son, Sean, and his wife Joanne, and his grandchildren Ian and Cathaline Deering, and John Armstrong (Jack) and Christian Cavanagh. Wake Information: Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st, 2:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm. NF Walker Funeral Home, 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY 11556 516-378-0303. Sympathy cards to the family can be mailed to: John A. Cavanagh, CAGNY, 950 Third Avenue, 25th Floor, New York, NY 10022.
