I knew John since I was a toddler. He was one of my father's closest friends. Every year John would come over to visit his sister in Norwich and stay a few days with my family in London. My dad would announce when John was coming to London and the three of us, like a "gang of "lads", would go to lunch or a pub where we would spend hours talking. Then I got to know his family Karen, Liam and Devlin and they would accompany him to England. I am utterly devastated about this sad news and send my heartfelt condolences to all three of you. I wish I could be at John's funeral to say goodbye to him. John was an important part of my life and now a big part of my father has gone with him. He was wise, witty and I was always fascinated by his stories. I will and do miss him immensely. Rest easy John, lots of love and hugs to you Karen, Devlin and Liam. Please let me know when you are coming to London, Suzanne Lennon X

John was a colleague of mine with the IEA but more important he became a good friend. I really did not get to know John until I closed out my career in the Lake Bluff IEA office. John was a successful organizer, bargainer, and advocate for teachers, support personnel, and education. I will never forget his "filling system "- a stack of papers on his desk from which he could always pull out the correct file! John was forever the college professor. Ask John a question and be prepared for a long and right on answer. He was a wine and food connoisseur. He was, in his youth, a skilled tennis player. He enjoyed reading intellectual and historical books while puffing on his cigar. He was the author of many books, some never completed! Yes, he will be missed, especially by his wife Karen, his two boys.and many friends!

Dear Karen & Family: It was my honor to have known, yea, experienced John during our early days at IEA. His wit, charm and unsurpassed ability to weave a fascinating story or two were legend during that period of aggressive and successful organizing. Moreover, John introduced me to fine French wines he managed to find at discount in then wine-desert Springfield. I shall be ever grateful. My deepest sympathy and wishes for your comfort in the good memories. George King
