McGUIRE--Fr. John Patrick,

O.P., of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) died peacefully on Sunday, December 25th at St. Catherine of Siena Priory (411 68th St.) where he was in residence. Fr. McGuire, a New York city native, served for eight years as the Catholic Chaplain at New York University (NYU) and then for twelve years as pastor of St. Joseph's Parish in Greenwich Village. Before assignments at NYU/St. Joseph's, Fr. McGuire served as pastor of St. Mary's Parish in New Haven, CT, and as prior of the Dominican Community there. In addition to his parochial duties, he served at the Angelicum University in Rome, as Chaplain to the Knights of Malta and in many other positions for the Dominican Order and the Church. His warm, welcoming demeanor and priestly compassion made him a much beloved and effective pastor. Fr. McGuire was born in New York City in 1943, made Solemn Vows in 1972 and completed his basic studies for the priesthood at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington. He was ordained to the priesthood at St. Dominic Church, Washington, DC, on June 1, 1973. He then went on to earn a doctorate in theology at the Angelicum in Rome. Besides his Dominican Community, he is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins both in New Jersey, Ireland, England and France. Fr. McGuire's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 3rd at 10:00am at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 65th and Lexington Avenue, New York City. The Wake will be held on Monday, January 2nd, at St. Joseph's Church, 371 6th Avenue, from 4:00 to 9:00pm. Vigil prayers and remembrances will be at 7:00pm. Interment will be at Mt.
