Jordan Gerber Obituary

GERBER--Jordan. The Gerber family is deeply saddened to announce the death of Jordan Gerber. Jordan, known to many as "Jordy", died peacefully after a sudden illness on April 23rd, surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old. A life-long resident of New York, Jordy maintained homes on the Upper East Side and in Westhampton Beach. After founding and operating The New York Jean Company, his successful denim business, where he became known as "The King of Jeans", he "retired" and joined his sons Scott, Rande and Kenny in the creation of Gerber Group, which owns and operates more than 30 bars and restaurants nationwide, including Stone Rose in the Time Warner Center and Whiskey Blue in the W Hotel. Jordy's role at the Gerber Group included oversight of construction projects for the company and, more importantly, served as a primary point of contact between management and the thousands of employees who adored him. The familial relationship Jordy built with his employees helped foster the outstanding customer service that has become a trademark of the Gerber Group's success. Jordy's extended family very clearly included both the Gerber Group's employees and its celebrity clientele. Born in Brooklyn, New York he was a graduate of Oceanside High School and Boston University where he was a member of the Phi Epsilon Chi fraternity. He was also a passionate sportsman who loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed the beauty of the Hamptons. Jordy is survived by his beloved wife Kelly, sons Scott (wife Tracey), Rande (wife Cindy Crawford) and Kenny, daughter Sophie, grandchildren (who called him PeaPa) Chase, Owen, Georgia, Presley and Kaia, sisters Joni and Cassie, nieces Wendee and Jessie and nephews Doug, Nick, Tommy and Hawke. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City for their compassion and care. A celebration of Jordy's life will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at Stone Rose Lounge in the Time Warner Center from 6-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in the name of Jordan Gerber to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org). I worked at the W Times Square and was in charge of the Engineering Department and dealt with Jordan frequently. He was always polite and greatful for what we did for him even if it was just returning his call. My condolences to his family, he was a gem.

Randee, Scott and Kenny.

Your father was truly one of a kind and I just want to emulate Jodry's relationship with you as I have with my three boys. I knew you all before the glamor and fame and yet Jordy was the same person regardless. He will be greatly missed and I will always remember that wonderful smile

Dear Kelly and Sophie,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Jordan's so very sudden passing.
I had just seen him the Sunday before just outside the building and he was his usual cheerful self. Spending so much time in the lobby since Alexander started walking I would run into Jordan quite frequently. He was always able to put a big smile on Alexander's face not to mention my own. Jordan was a wonderful person and I was so proud to be able to say that he was my cousin. My heart goes out to you both as well as Cassie, Joni, Scott, Rande, Kenny and all the grandchildren. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Jonathan

Dear Scott,
Bruce and I are deeply saddened to learn of Jordan's passing. A wonderful man whose generosity of spirit and passion for life were truly
contagious.
Everytime I saw him he had a big smile, and a warm hug which were always punctuated by charming words.
He will sorely be missed.
Best always,
Jill and Bruce Goodman

(THIS IS A PERSONAL MESSAGE FOR CASSIE & JOANIE. JORDY'S SISTERS.)
Jordy, my childhood friend. I have and will always cheerish the times that we experienced in tasteing the years together as we grew up. The great times at Camp Baco, Oceanside High School and just being together with Ronny, Morty and Steve. The four Musketeers that did everything together. Laughing almost all the time and sharing the sad monments with a few tears as well. After all these years we can still feel close even though we have not shared them together but still being able to share time with those mutual friends from the past.
Lainie is still crazy about your blue eyes and good looks but I must say she says the same thing about me, so that makes me feel real good.
To Cassie and Joanie, I share your greif but we are all fortunate to be able to dwell on the fond memories that Jordy has left us. To Rande, Scott, Kenny, Kelley and Sophie, who I have never had the pleasure of meeting, may I extend my sincere condolences to you and all your family. The last time I spoke to Jordy was about 8 years ago, not to long after Sophie was born. I had planned to call Jordy just prior to passover this year to wish him a Happy Passover, but like many things in todays life, I got side tracked and forgot. Sorry Jordy. Instead I will say a Prayer for You.
I'll miss You.
Love You Buddy,
Harvey Rutheiser
