JOSE LLADO Obituary

LLADO FERNANDEZ- URRUTIA--Jose. It is with profound sadness that the Board of Directors, Officers, and staff of the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute mourn the passing of Jose Llado Fernandez-Urrutia, age 89, on February 14, 2024, in Madrid, Spain. Jose Llado served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute (QSSI), the New York based American non-profit, for over 30 years and greatly contributed to the organization's success. A remarkable and intellectual visionary, he passionately believed in the Institute's mission of furthering the knowledge and understanding of culture and history of Spain and the Spanish speaking world for Americans through varied cultural and educational activities in order to deepen the bonds of friendship between nations. Mr. Llado served various important positions in Spain's government and was Spain's Ambassador to the United States from 1978 - 1982. Jose Llado was also the President of the Spanish leading mult-inational engineering and infrastructure company, Tecnicas Reunidas, which he founded in 1960. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends, especially to his beloved daughter, Pilar Llado Arburua, who currently serves as the Chairperson of the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute. Pilar carries the torch of her father's legacy through her involvement and leadership, in honor of her dad. Patrice Degnan, President & CEO, Queen Sofia Spanish Institute; M. Begonia Santos, Executive Director & COO, Queen Sofia Spanish Institute
