JOSEPH MARTUSCELLO Obituary

MARTUSCELLO--Joseph M., a former NY State Assemblyman and business executive, died on January 28, 2011. He was 72. Son of the late Supreme Court Justice, Appellate Division, Second Department, Hon. M. Henry Martuscello and the late Kathryn (nee Sessa). He is survived by his wife, Caroline G. Martuscello, son Henry K. Martuscello, daughter Kathryn-Mary Martuscello-Hoff, daughter-in-law Ariana L. Martuscello, son-in-law Edward F. Hoff Jr., granddaughters Caroline E. Hoff, Isabella M. Hoff, and Veronica G. Martuscello, grandson Edward F. Hoff III, his sister Michele M. Hug, brother Henry A. Martuscello, Esq., sister-in-law Mary Mihalakos Martuscello, Esq. and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Martuscello graduated from Brooklyn Preparatory School and attended St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. He represented the 52nd A.D. in the New York State Assembly (1970-1972). He had many business interests in the insurance, real estate and marine industries. He was president of Serres, Visone & Rice, Inc., American Marine Underwriter, Inc, and Trans-State Brokerage, Inc., insurance firms in New York City and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tri-State Dry Dock in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Mr. Martuscello served in the US Army Reserve attaining the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged. He was on the Boards of Trustees of St. Vincent Services, Brooklyn, NY, Xaverian High School, Brooklyn, NY, and Board of Regents of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY. He was a founding trustee of the Brooklyn Jesuit Preparatory School, Brooklyn, NY and the Olympian Bank, Brooklyn, NY. He was the owner of Caracello Ristorante in the Financial District. He was a Knight of Malta and a long time member of the New York Athletic Club, North Hills Country Club, Tiro e Segno Rifle Club, Columbus Club and the Fisher Island Club. He had residences in New York City, East Hampton, NY, Palatine Bridge, NY and Fisher Island, FL. A Wake will be held at F.G. Guido Funeral Home, 440 Clinton Street, Brooklyn, New York 11231, Thursday and Friday, February 3rd and 4th, from 2 to 5pm and 7 to 10pm. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Hearts and St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church, Saturday interment immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to St. Anthony's Breadline, 135 W. 31st St., New York, New York 10117-0710.
