You can't even imagine how much I miss Judge McLaughlin. Even though I haven't been in touch since I graduated from law school, he was the brightest light in my attendance at night classes, while working two jobs. He was brilliant, witty and clear as a bell in explaining any concept. What a wonderful man and educator.

I was greatly saddened to learn of Judge McLaughlin's passing. As a student at Fordham, I was fortunate to have had Prof. McLaughlin for evidence and New York practice, both subjects in which he was a recognized expert. He was a truly outstanding teacher who combined a theoretical and practical mastery of the law, a keen analytical mind, a sharp wit, and an ability to make even arcane and complex concepts understandable. As a teacher and later Dean, he was an inspiration to me, as he no doubt was to countless others as well.

I was so sad to learn of Judge McLaughlin's premature passing. He was a tremendous support and mentor to me when I was a young law school graduate clerking in the Eastern District of New York. He also had a special gift for enjoying life. I will never forget his special St. Patrick's Day celebrations where he would have an airing of "THE Quiet man" in chambers for several of the clerks and courthouse personnel. It was a pleasure to know him. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to the McLaughlin Family.

Professor McLaughlin was a joy filled introduction for me, to the Law. For example in Domestic Relations, he spoke about '...the primrose path of dalliance...'!

I had the pleasure of taking an evidence course with Judge McLaughlin at St. John's in the 1980's. He was a gifted teacher, who had real warmth and a great sense of humor. I'll never forget him.

I only met the judge once in 1974 at PLI's NY bar review course. I can still remember his pleasant manner in presenting the materials. The Spanish have a word for such as he:sobresaliente.
