I'm at Joey working for scavulo and then next week working for Albert Watson as a photo assistant and we remain friends to the very end. When he came in at Albert Watson Studio I offhandedly told him to stop following me around, now this was after he had done makeup for over 1600 fashion magazine. His family had a cousin in Atlanta so on Thanksgiving I picked him up at the airport and stop by cousin's house and lo and behold his cousin was cooking chitlins! I cannot emphasize that chitlins have the most foul smell of any dish ever. Joey was one of the finest gentlemen that I knew in my life and a wonderful friend along with his rep . John represented the top photographers in the fashion world and is enjoying his retirement and always one of the finest gentlemen in the industry. I miss Joey each and every day and his benefit to the industry in the world will stand for many years to come. With love Barry Barnett

Joey was there the first day I worked. We were in Rome in 1978 for Italian Bazaar collections. I had no idea what I was doing and Joey couldn't have been more loving and supportive. We ended up becoming fast friends and spent many a morning chatting away while he put on my make up!!! Joey, you were one of a kind and will be missed! I had the honor of representing Joey in the 80's. His classic beautiful make-up graced the covers of every major magazine. He was the loved and respected by many supermodels, celebrities photographers, art directors and film directors. One thing was certain, when Joey was on the set it would be an iconic memorable day. Joey had so much talent and charisma! His makeup was beautiful, and he filled our shoots with laughter. To watch Joey work was to see someone full of contagious joy, excited to be doing what he loved. To travel with him was truly “a trip.” To have him in my life for so many years was a gift. Joey was one of the first makeup artists I met when I came to NYC in 1978. We worked for many magazines, beauty campaigns and did so many covers together. I will never forget his wonderful smile, great attitude and how talented he was. I always loved sending him postcards from where ever I was and I found out, he saved them all! Joey & Barry came to every fashion reunion party Harry King and I had with his famous red hat! We had also loved going to the Bryan Bantry movie events every week. He loved his popcorn!
I love you Joey and am honored to have worked with you and to call you my friend for so many years.

We had so much in common, beside the fact that we were raised in the same town and are the same age, and lived in the same building all our lives. We were both interested in all things NYC, fashion, style, in the performing and creative arts, story telling and having a good time.

I had moved to NY from London and met Joey the first day I started work at Cinandre, a hair emporium on 57th st. Four floors of hair and on the top floor was the PR office, shiatsu massage, six colorists and Joey Mills along with Wendy Whitelaw doing make up. He and I worked a lot together, for adds and Vogue, he had a vibrant personality and was never at a loss for what to say. The models loved him and he will be missed. RIP Joey and God bless you
