Joe was certainly "one of a kind" He was a blend of passion, caring, intensity, intelligence, boldness, generosity ,quick wit and laser beam focus. To be in his company was always a pleasure. I feel fortunate to have known and spent time with him, from time to time over the 50 years I have known him.

I Was a long time friend to Joe, and spoke with him the last Saturday before his passing. He expressed his fears of the situation and the O.R. I told him it was normal.
We talked about all the crazy things we did in SIA so long ago. He & Rose were coming to visit Ellen & me in Santa Fe on June 23 of this year. He would come at xmas time instead. Joe was the best friend could ever have expected. We alway called each other on our birthdays. He even hired a private eye to find me on our 40th birthdays, They found me in LA.

Joe lost his brother Richie some time ago,
it really hurt him for a long time.
Well Joe ,I hope you see Richie and Fr. Jack Ferrand. Our good buddies

To Rose, Jackie, Estllita and his grandkids, I send you my sincerest condolences.

As always yours,

Mario Quilles, Santa Fe, New Mexico

I'm sorry to have taken so long to express my condolences, Rose, but I've been in the throes of preparing for our 50th reunion for SIA. Joe and I reminisced just 2 weeks before his surgery and we were looking forward to seeing each other, again. Joe was truly a one-of-a-kind person and a loss like his is hard to accept.

I have many fond memories of Joe. He sat across from me in Doc Muller's architecture class, and next to my future brother-in-law Mario Quilles. We shared many wonderful moments in both the classroom and outside. Memories are one of God's precious gifts, and allows us all to continue to have and hold those memories and a picture of Joe with his wonderful smile in both our mind and heart.

Rose, our thoughts and prayers will always be with you,

Though I hadn't seen Joe since our high school years together, I was so looking forward to seeing him at our reunion. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. May the good Lord help you all find peace during this most difficult time.

Dear Rose and Family,
I was shocked to hear of Joe's passing. I was looking forward to seeing Joe at the SIA reunion. Although, I have not seen Joe in years, my memories of him are vivid. Joe was a kind soul who had a great sense of humor and always made me feel comfortable. He enjoyed teaching this little Jewish Bronx girl all the bad Italian words. He will be missed.

I was sorry to hear about your loss. I was looking forwrd to seeing Joe at our reunion.I have fond memories of
Joe and Cookie and their "bad boy ways" May he rest in the arms of the angels.

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to school with Joe and was always
amused by his shenanagans with his buddy "Cookie" Lorello. I ran into Joe
in the early sixties at a disco. He was having such a good time doing the "twist". I believe I reminded him of this at our school's 40th reunion.
Although I may have lost touch with some of my classmates and
friends, They share a very special place in my memories and in my
heart. SIA was a very special school
with very special people. Joe was one of them. May God bless him and keep him.

I was in high school with Joe in the 1950s. I was sort of scared of him back then -- he was one of the rocks, one of the greasers, or so it seemed to me. But now I look at his picture in our old yearbook -- what an open sunny smile he had! I was scared of that? I am sorry to have not known the real Joe myself, but glad that so many people did, and I join them in mourning his passing.
