I was married to Juanita's brother, Elmer Jr until his death in 1989. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and will remember the wonderful visits with her at her beach house in NC. Peggy Morris

Many years ago, Juanita, Ed. Bishop, and I applied for and got an institutional development grant from the US Department of Labor to fund teaching and research in labor (or manpower) economics at Duke, NCSU and UNC(CH). I administered the grant which among other things provided money to Juanita; funding her research and that of her grad. students at Duke. As one might have expected and as I knew she would, Juanita delivered a substantial "bundle" of research findings related to female labor force participation and the economics of retirement. I've said in other places that I have never spent research funds more effectively. Juanita was a fine researcher, an excellent academician, a dedicated public servant, and a lovely lady. She and her ever- pleasant demeanor will be missed, but her accomplishments live on through her work, her students, and the many colleagues whose lives she touched -- always for the better.

My heart is with the entire family. What a terrific lady Juanita was. I have fond memories of our travels to Poland and Japan and happy days at the Commerce Department and Duke. She gave me many wonderful opportunites for which I will be forever grateful. Jennifer Duffy
