JUDITH JAFFE

JAFFE--Judith. With great sadness, the family of Judith Jaffe announces her passing on November 8 in Berkeley, California at age 92. Judy was a devoted mother to Naomi, Audrey, and Carrie, and grandmother to Eli and Seth. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Dr. Israeli Jaffe (1927-2014) and her brother Arthur Snyder. Born Judith Snyder, she grew up in Far Rockaway, New York. She studied modern dance and Martha Graham technique at Sarah Lawrence, and after college taught dance at Howard University. She later earned her Master's in Social Work from New York University and enjoyed a successful career as a psychotherapist at the Fifth Avenue Center and in private practice. An accomplished pianist, Judy also enjoyed the many trips she took with Ray; reading, cooking, and entertaining, and attending classical music and dance performances. In retirement she tutored young students in reading and volunteered with "English in Action," helping adults with language skills. She loved the "Metropolitan Diary" and could make new friends on the crosstown bus. She will be missed beyond words.
