JULIAN ROBERTSON

ROBERTSON--Julian. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) notes with tremendous sadness the death of our longtime friend Julian Robertson. Julian's legacy at MSK is one of remarkable compassion and generosity. For six decades, Julian, his family, and the Robertson Foundation have helped transform cancer care and research through their philanthropic partnership with MSK. Julian's vision and dedication to improving outcomes for people with cancer worldwide allowed MSK to create new paradigms in treatment that have elevated standards of care. His support enabled construction of the Josie Robertson Surgery Center at MSK, paving the way for many patients to experience out-patient cancer care and improved quality of life. Julian was also deeply committed to ensuring a strong future for cancer discovery through the family's support of the Josie Robertson Investigators Program, which cultivates the work of some of the most promising young cancer scientists. Today, alumni of this program are conducting innovative research at MSK and other prestigious institutions around the globe. Both were lovingly named after Julian's wife, Josephine "Josie" Robertson, who served on the MSK Board from 2004 until her death in 2010. The extraordinary impact of Julian's contributions will be felt by our patients, and all people with cancer and their families, for many years to come. We are grateful that Julian and Josie's legacy at MSK continues through their son Alex Robertson's work on the MSK Board. We extend our deepest sympathies to Alex and the entire Robertson family - as well as deepest gratitude for everything Julian contributed to this institution and the world. Scott M.
