JULIAN ROBERTSON

ROBERTSON--Julian. The Wildlife Conservation Society is saddened by the death of Julian Robertson, an extraordinary champion of wildlife conservation and the environment. Through the Robertson Foundation, founded by Julian with his late wife, Josephine "Josie" Robertson and their family in 1996, the world has greatly benefited from their commitment to protect species such as tigers, to fight the climate crisis, and to educate millions about the importance of saving species. Julian, founder in 1980 of the hedge fund Tiger Management Corp., and Josie provided the lead financing for the Bronx Zoo's incredible Tiger Mountain, which has educated a generation of families about tigers and the threats they face across their habitat. As a WCS Board Member, starting in 1993 and a Life Trustee since 2008, Julian's vision and commitment to wildlife conservation have provided meaningful experiences for millions of zoo visitors and have enabled a path for the rebound of tigers in the wild across Asia. In 2017, Julian was given WCS's Distinguished Leadership in Conservation Award. We extend our condolences to Julian's family, including his sons and daughters-in-law, Spencer and Sarah; Julian and Claire; and Alexander and Alexandra; their children; and Julian's beloved sister, Wyndham Robertson.
