JULIUS BERMAN

BERMAN--Julius. The Yeshiva University community together with President Berman (nephew) mourn the passing of Rabbi Julius Berman, a distinguished alumnus, leader and guardian of the University's mission whose impact spanned more than seven decades. Rabbi Berman graduated from Yeshiva College in 1956 and received rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary in 1959. He was a long-standing member of the Yeshiva University Board of Trustees and the RIETS Board of Trustees, serving as chairman of RIETS from 2000 to 2012. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Berman; his children -- Rabbi Zev Berman (Judy), Myra Aminsky (Simcha), and Rabbi Eli Berman (Miriam); and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devoted student of Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik, Rabbi Berman believed in YU's mission to cultivate scholars and leaders grounded in Torah values and engaged with the broader world. He will be remembered with profound gratitude and affection by the entire YU community. May the family find comfort among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
